Terms of sale and use
Last updated 24 October 2026
These terms apply when you buy or use Chapters: Wedding (“Chapters”, “we”, “us”) at chapters.coach. By buying, activating or using Chapters you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't buy.
1. Who we are (ECTA section 43)
- Supplier: Chapters, a trading name of Duard Bateman (sole proprietor)
- Registration number: Not applicable (sole proprietor)
- Physical and postal address, and address for service of legal documents: 4A Seymour Street, Westdene, Johannesburg, Gauteng, 2092, South Africa
- Phone: +27 76 217 4744 · Email: coach@chapters.coach · Website: chapters.coach
- We are not registered for VAT, so no VAT is charged.
- We don't belong to any self-regulatory body or subscribe to an industry code of conduct.
2. What you're buying
Chapters Guide (R399, once-off): a downloadable PDF wedding-planning guide, licensed to the buyer for personal use. Every copy is marked with the buyer's name. With it comes a unique credit code worth R399 off Chapters Coach. You can use it once, for one Coach purchase.
Chapters Coach (R999, once-off): a personal plan built from your answers, an online dashboard for you and one partner, coaching emails and replies to your emails. It also includes the Guide. Access starts when you activate your code and lasts until two weeks after your wedding date, for no more than 18 months from activation. There is no subscription and nothing renews.
Gifts cost the same as buying for yourself. The person you give it to activates the code when they're ready. Unused gift codes and Guide credit codes stay valid for at least 3 years from purchase, in line with section 63 of the Consumer Protection Act.
Prices are in South African rand and include all charges. You pay through PayFast. We never see or store your card details.
3. Access, cooling-off and refunds
Chapters is digital content and a digital service. Under section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (ECTA) you may cancel within 7 days of buying. Section 42(2) says that right doesn't apply to services that began, with your consent, before the 7 days are up.
- Before activation or download: email us within 7 days of buying and we'll refund you in full, within 30 days, to your original payment method. We may deduct only the direct cost of returning the money, if any.
- After activation or download: you asked for access to start straight away and agreed to this at checkout. So the cooling-off right no longer applies and we can't refund.
- If something is genuinely wrong with Chapters (it doesn't work as described), tell us and we'll fix it. If we can't, we'll refund you. Your rights under the Consumer Protection Act aren't affected.
- Credit codes have no cash value. If a Guide is refunded, its credit code is cancelled.
4. Your account
You log in with email links instead of a password. Keep your email account secure, because anyone with access to it can open your plan. Each Coach includes the buyer (or gift recipient) and one partner. Please don't share your access code or links with anyone else.
5. Coaching, not professional advice
Chapters gives general planning guidance. It is not legal, financial, religious or cultural advice. Marriage law steps, lobola and other customs, contracts and supplier choices are your decisions. Check important matters with the right person, such as the Department of Home Affairs, your marriage officer, an attorney or your family elders. See our Disclaimer.
Coach replies are written with the help of AI tools and checked by a person before they're sent. We aim to reply within two working days. We may change how replies work and will update these terms if we do.
6. Licence and fair use
The Guide, the plans and all content belong to us. You may use them for your own wedding and print copies for the people helping you. You may not resell, share publicly or republish them.
7. Our responsibility
We work hard to keep Chapters accurate and available, but we can't promise it will be error-free or always online. As far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for indirect losses or for supplier, venue or third-party failures. Our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us. Nothing here limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act that can't legally be limited.
8. Privacy
How we handle your information is set out in our Privacy Policy.
9. Changes and law
We may update these terms. The version you agreed to at checkout applies to your purchase. These terms are governed by South African law.
10. Contact and complaints
Email coach@chapters.coach. If we can't resolve a complaint, you may contact the National Consumer Commission.
